Airdrieonians vs Inverness CT

Saturday 19th September 2009
Hayes saves Inverness Jonathan Hayes' late strike salvaged a 1-1 draw for Inverness at Airdrie, who are still searching for their first victory of the season. Airdrie had a number of opportunities in the first half to open the scoring and deservedly broke the deadlock in the 25th minute. A throw-in on the left was flicked on by Paul Keegan and Grant Munro allowed John Baird time and space to turn inside the box and drill a low shot into the net. In the closing 10 minutes of the first-half Kevin McDonald fired wide from 20 yards out while Scott McLaughlin forced Ryan Esson into making a fine save from his curling free-kick. Airdrie should have doubled their lead in the 63th minute after Alan Trouten was brought down by Nauris Bulvitis and a penalty was awarded. However, John Baird's effort was well saved by keeper Ryan Esson. With seven minutes remaining Thistle equalised following Richie Foran's run into the box and lay-off to Hayes, who drilled an angled shot into the net. In stoppage time Airdrie could have snatched all three points but a Trouten cross was headed wide at the back post by Kevin Watt.
