Airdrieonians vs Partick Thistle

Saturday 3rd April 2010

Airdrie keep survival hopes alive

A superb Scott McLaughlin volley and a Paul Lovering penalty earned Airdrie a priceless 2-0 win against Partick in their bid to stave off relegation.

But the away side could have scored a penalty of their own had Liam Buchanan not missed from the spot after Marc Smyth had fouled Liam Buchanan on the hour-mark.

Thistle were made to pay just 10 minutes later, when John Robertson brought down Scott Gemmill in the box and Lovering duly converted for only his third goal of the season.

Four minutes later McLaughlin sealed the win in style with a 20-yard left-foot volley into the bottom corner, but despite the three precious points United remain rooted to the bottom of the First Division.
