Partick Thistle vs Airdrieonians

Saturday 3rd October 2009
Thistle move top Partick moved to the top of the First Division following a 2-0 victory over struggling Airdrie. Both sides took time to get used to the strong winds at Firhill. It was Airdrie's John Baird who threatened first with a shot which flew inches wide. The home team eventually created a opportunity when Simon Donnelly put through Liam Buchanan, only for Bobby Donnelly to rescue the visitors with a last-gasp tackle. Scott McLaughlin was sent off just before half-time for a professional foul on Paul Paton and Thistle finally took advantage in the second half. They tore apart the 10 men with a superb passing move, leaving Bryan Hodge with enough time to pick his spot from eight yards after 53 minutes. They made it two midway through the half when Mark Donnelly received a pass from Mark Corcoran and he fired home a fierce shot from 12 yards to secure the points.
