Airdrieonians vs Raith Rovers

Saturday 10th October 2009
Rovers seal points at Airdrie Raith took all three points following a 2-1 victory over basement club Airdrie. The visitors were hanging on in the end in a match they should have ran out comfortable winners. After 26 minutes Raith's aerial dominance saw them take the lead. An Allan Walker free-kick into the penalty area saw Iain Davidson rise unchallenged to head the ball into the net. Five minutes before the interval Johnny Russell went close to doubling the advantage when he raced in behind the home defence but fired the low shot off the post. Two minutes after the restart they did have their second goal when good play down the right created the opportunity for Iain Williamson to fire home from an angle. A minute later Airdrie centre-back Bobby Donnelly was given a second yellow and sent off. Despite their advantage, Rovers were unable to add a third but had many close calls. With six minutes remaining Raith's Gregory Tade was given a second yellow and also sent off. Three minutes from time Kevin Watt set up Diarmuid O'Carroll and the big striker held off the challenge to fire low into the net for a late consolation.
