Queen of South vs Airdrieonians

Saturday 24th April 2010

Late blow for Airdrie

Airdrie were denied a vital three points away from home in their attempts to beat the drop as a last-minute goal earned Queen of the South a 2-2 draw.

David Weatherson scored in the second minute of injury time to grab a equaliser which keeps Airdrie at the bottom.

The home side took the lead after 33 minutes through Derek Holmes who slotted the ball past Stephen Robertson in the Airdrie goal after being played in by Stewart Kean.

The visitors then turned the game on its head with a goal either side of half-time. Firstly, Scott Gemmill levelled the scores after 42 minutes getting on the end of a right-wing cross from Scott McLaughlin to slide the ball home.

And five minutes after the break Gemmill turned provider as he played in Richard Waddell who made no mistake from 12 yards out.

But with time running out Weatherson popped up free in the area to score from six yards out and break Airdrie hearts.
