Cairney at the double as Thistle return to winning ways

Partick ended a three-game losing run by beating bottom-placed club Airdrie 2-0.

Paul Cairney scored his sixth league goal of the campaign to give Thistle a 29th-minute lead. His right-foot shot converted Liam Buchanan's cross.

Cairney was again on the mark three minutes before the interval after firing home with his left foot this time from the edge of the area.

Partick had a chance to extend their lead in the second-half through Steve Lovell, who hit the post, while Airdrie's best chance fell to Tom Parratt but his attempt was saved by Jonathan Tuffey.

Both teams finished the match with 10 men after Airdrie's Alan Trouten and Partick's David Rowson were given their second yellow cards in the closing stages.
