Dunfermline vs Airdrieonians

Saturday 6th March 2010

Home side labour to win

Dunfermline could only record a 2-0 victory over bottom club Airdrie, despite dominating long spells of their encounter at East End Park.

The Pars onslaught on the strugglers goal began as early as the fourth minute when a powerful effort from Alex Burke forced a good save from Airdrie keeper Stephen Robertson.

The early chance set the tone for the entire match, although United nearly responded when Scott McLaughlin saw his shot blocked by Chris Higgins.

Robertson was on hand to keep the scoresheet blank again in the second half, saving from Steven Bell's close-range header.

But the hosts finally had the lead soon after, Andy Kirk dusting himself down to smash home a 54th-minute penalty after he had been felled by Marc Smyth.

And despite bossing the rest of the game, the winner did not arrive until three minutes from time when Bell converted McDougall's right-wing cross.
