Airdrieonians vs Ayr United

Saturday 13th March 2010

United seal late point

Bottom-club Airdrie staged a dramatic late comeback to draw 1-1 with Ayr despite playing nearly an hour with 10 men.

United - rooted to the foot of the table - looked set to have an uphill task from the 33rd minute when John Baird was given his marching orders for violent conduct.

It heralded the start of a bad tempered affair that saw seven yellow cards handed out - two the home side, and five to the frustrated visitors.

Ayr struggled to take advantage of the extra body and laboured in their attacking play, Junior Mendes going closest late on.

They did finally manage the breakthrough in the final minute though when Daniel McKay's left-foot effort found the bottom corner.

But the strugglers could not hold and Airdrie immediately snatched a point thanks to Paul Keegan's last-gasp header.
