Queen of the South will look keep a healthy gap on Morton at the foot of the table by seeing off the Greenock side at Palmerston.

A win for the Doonhamers, a second of the season over Allan Moore’s men, would open up a 6 point gap on their visitors and experienced midfielder Paul Burns is available for the first time in three months after a groin injury to help their cause.

Goalkeeper Calum Antell is also back in the squad following a foot injury, however he will have to content himself with a place on the bench due to the form of on-loan St Johnstone shot-stopper Zander Clark.

Manager Jim McIntyre said: “Morton will be boosted after beating Dumbarton last week, however we want the three points just as much as they do. We played well against the league leaders Hamilton last weekend but came away with nothing.”

“They took a chance and we didn’t and that was the difference.  I want us to repeat the level of performance but be more ruthless in front of goal.”

Morton could move off bottom spot if they defeat Queen of the South and second bottom Cowdenbeath lose to Alloa however Moore is not in a position to pick his side due to injuries.

Skipper Mark McLaughlin, Craig Reid, Fouad Bachirou and Tony Wallace all struggling with knocks with the Cappielow side already missing Reece Hands and David O’Brien through long term knocks.

Moore said: “It would be nice to get the win that would at least pull us level with Queen of the South. Doing that and getting off the bottom would be even better.”

“We have looked sharp in training and hopefully we will take that into this one. Hopefully our injuries will clear up to give us a better chance.”
