Bottom of the table Morton are undefeated in five games however they face a real moment of truth in their meeting with an Alloa side who have not won since they defeated the Cappielow men in December.

A win would take Kenny Shiels side to ten points behind the Wasps with momentum behind them however a defeat would see the safety of eighth place slip 16 points away.

The Greenock side miss the injured Nicolas Caraux, Ben Sampayo and Reece Hands with Archie Campbell in line for a start after bagging a hat-trick for the reserves in midweek.

Shiels said: “If we win we are still 10 points behind Alloa and at best 6 behind Cowdenbeath but we will have given ourselves a real boost. We are playing well now and are a lot tighter at the back however we have to start turning draws into wins.

“A win would increase our momentum and have other teams looking over their shoulders.”

Alloa’s recent signing former Celtic, Hibs and Scotland striker Derek Riordan picked up a knock in a midweek reserve game                and is struggling to make the Cappielow encounter.

Jason Marr and Willie Robertson both remain out due to injury for the Wasps as well.

Manager Barry Smith was playing down the importance of the result in this game and concentrating only on winning it as he said: “I have not looked into what a win would mean for us in terms of our season and what the points gap on Morton would be. I have only been concentrating on getting the three points, I will look into the other stuff afterwards.”

“If we are to win we have to start this game well. We never got going against Livingston last weekend until after half time and by that time we were a goal down.
