Relegation will turn from a probability to a certainty for Morton if they fail to beat Dumbarton tonight and manager Kenny Shiels is adamant that if they go down they will go down with a flourish.

Shiels explained: “There is an air of expectancy regarding where we will be playing next season however we will not just lie down and accept things. My view is that we start preparing for next season by trying to bring some positivity between now and the end of this season.”

“We will start rebuilding now to ensure that if we drop out of the Championship then we are only out of it for one year. We are starting again and bearing in mind we have good players here, and a good youth system, there is lots to work with.”

Shiels added: “We lost 3-0 to Queen of the South on Saturday but that was an unfair score-line. If we can build on the good play we saw and cut out the mistakes that cost us goals we can beat Dumbarton.”

“They score lots of goals and are chasing a play-off place so we have to stand up to things.”

Rowan Vine returns after a one game ban however Ben Sampayo, David O’Brien and Reece Hands all remain out with injury.

Dumbarton, who have yet to keep a clean sheet on their travels in the Championship this season , will look to pull to within 3 points of fourth placed Queen of the South in the race for a play-off place.

The Sons are aiming to defeat Morton by starting where they finished on Saturday when they scored twice in the last 4 minutes to turn a potential 1-0 defeat at Livingston into a 2-1.

Manager Ian Murray is looking to build on that success as he explained: “We left it late but we had been well on top throughout the second half. Every game just now is a must win and to be fair to the players they handled that well at the weekend. I am sure they will handle that at Morton as well.”

“We cannot concern ourselves with the implications of us winning the game for Morton as we have our own targets to reach.”

Former St Mirren and Partick Thistle player Hugh Murray is available after suspension however Scott Linton looks set to miss out with a hamstring injury.
