McKenzie strike enough for Brechin

Rory McKenzie's second-half goal proved the difference as Brechin beat Stenhousemuir 1-0 at Glebe Park.

Chances were at a premium in the first half but Craig Molloy came close to giving the home side an early lead, his effort well saved by Alistair Brown.

McKenzie was next to test Brown, but could not find a way past him with a long-range drive.

The visitors tested Craig Nelson just after the hour mark but Stewart Kean was denied by a fine save.

The deadlock was finally broken with 20 minutes left when McKenzie produced a fine strike from the edge of the area.

Kevin McInlay could have snatched a point for the Warriors but his header was blocked on the line by Paul McLean.

Trio still missing for Stenny clash

Brechin will again be without the injured trio of Gerry McLauchlan, Charlie King and Derek Carcary as they look to pull to within two points of Stenhousemuir in the race for a play-off place.

Manager Jim Weir is determined that his men make it two wins out of two, although he recognises his side's opponents have the same aim.

Weir said: "They had a great win over Airdrie at the weekend and they also have players available again after suspension so we will need to be at our best to stop them winning for a second game in a row.

"This is a massive time for us and if we can put a few wins in a row we could be serious play-off contenders."

Stenhousemuir welcome back Ross McMillan and Kevin McKinlay after suspension.

The Warriors are still short on numbers as defender Martyn Corrigan is out long-term with an ankle injury, winger Stevie Murray is not ready to play following a dislocated elbow and midfielder Eric Paton is a doubt.

Boss Kenny Irons is looking for his men to build on Saturday's 3-0 success at Airdrie.

He said: "Our away form was not the best in the first half of the season but hopefully Airdrie represents a change in that.

"Hopefully we can put that right between now and the end of the season and keep our place in the play-offs."
