Arbroath close gap on Forfar

Arbroath moved to within three points of Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Forfar Athletic with a 1-0 win over Clyde at Gayfield.

Mark Whatley scored the only goal just before half-time to give Dick Campbell's men an important victory and drop Clyde to ninth place.

Forfar went down 2-1 at home to Edinburgh City despite going ahead through Jim Lister. Derek Riordan equalised and Lewis Allan grabbed a late winner for Gary Jardine's men.

Annan Athletic are up to third place after beating Elgin City 1-0 at Galabank with a first-half penalty from David McKenna.

Stirling Albion leapfrogged Montrose to go fifth with a fourth straight win, 3-1 at Links Park. Darren Smith, Ross Kavanagh and Connor McLaren netted for the Binos, who had Liam Caddis sent off. Kerr Hay got one back for the home side.

Bottom club Cowdenbeath earned their first victory of 2017 by beating Berwick Rangers 3-1 at Shielfield. Robbie Buchanan, Brian Ross and Kris Renton scored for the Blue Brazil before Greg Rutherford pulled one back.
