Best pitches lie in Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire is the region for the best football playing surfaces in Scotland according to Match Officials and Managers who voted for both SPL St Mirren and First Division Morton’s pitches to be recognised by the Institute of Groundmanship Annual Awards.

The IoG collate the reports, before sending a panel of experts to visit the clubs and deciding on a winner from all four senior Divisions in Scotland after consideration is then given to maintenance regimes, the number of games played on the pitch plus the resources and equipment available at the grounds.

The full list of award winners were:-

SPL

Tommy Docherty - St Mirren,  runner up John Hayes – Celtic, Tommy Cumming – Inverness Caledonian Thistle

First Division

Mark Farrel – Morton,  runner up Kevin McCulloch – Queen of the South

Second Division

Stuart Speirs – Livingston,  runner up Martin Gray – Forfar

Third Division

Dave Gilmour – Clyde,  runner up Peter Clark – Arbroath
