Striker Scott Morton, who was released before the end of the last transfer window by Airdrie United and scored as a trialist in a SPL under-20 game for Hamilton Accies, has signed for Third Division Montrose.

The 20-year-old started his career at Queen’s Park before joining the Diamonds and he made an instant impact for then when he scored on his debut against Dumbarton in February 2011.

Morton went on to net another four goals in 7 starts and 13 substitute appearances for Jimmy Boyle’s side before agreeing to leave the club despite having a contract that ran until December 2013.

Morton said, “I have played for Montrose a couple of times in trial games and have been training with them so I am delighted to agree a deal to join up.”
