Peterhead sign two

Thursday 26th July 2012

Peterhead manager Jim McInally has completed the double signing of former Scotland, Dundee United, Aberdeen, Livingston and Alloa striker Robbie Winters and midfielder Dean Cowie.

Winters, who has scored three times in his last two games as a Blue Toon trialist, has signed a short term deal until the end of August with McInally saying, “Robbie brings to us some great link up play and an overall fantastic knowledge of the game. Both parties are happy with the short term nature of the deal and we will review things as we go along. It is a risk in that if he does that well, somebody else might make him an offer but I am glad he is here just now.”

If Winters stays for longer he will be looking to win his fourth league title in a row after back to back successes with Livingston as they returned to the First Division and last season’s Third Division triumph with Alloa..

Cowie has returned to Balmoor for a second time following spells in the Highland League with Turriff United and Fraserburgh, as well as playing in Australia.

McInally said, “I watched Dean play last season and he is my cup of tea as he is aggressive, as well as being neat and tidy on the ball. We do not have these assets in abundance and the pleasing thing is that he is ambitious as he was offered a better deal elsewhere but wants to help us succeed.”
