Airdrie bring in former Liverpool youth

Mackay-Steven joins Diamonds

Airdrie United have not waited long in bringing in a striker to replace teenage sensation Tony Watt who joined Celtic last week. The Diamonds have signed 21 year old former Liverpool player Gary Mackay-Steven, who has been without a club since last summer.

Mackay-Steven started his career at Ross County and despite never playing a first team game he signed a pre-contract agreement with the Anfield club aged just 17 in 2007. His spell at Merseyside was blighted by injury and he was released in the summer of 2009 and spent time on the books of Fulham.

Mackay-Steven was signed in time to be registered for the Fourth Round Scottish Cup tie against Morton that was cancelled at the weekend.
