Brechin City moved to within two points of the League 1 play-offs after beating bottom club Stirling Albion 2-1 at Glebe Park.

Robert Thomson fired Ray McKinnon's men ahead after 27 minutes but the home side had Colin Hamilton sent off for handball early in the second half.

Gordon Smith, who scored twice in Albion's marathon shoot-out with Hurlford in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, saw his penalty saved by Graeme Smith and substitute Paul McLean then doubled City's lead before Graham Weir pulled one back late on.

In League 2, Elgin City moved off the bottom of the table following a 0-0 draw with Annan Athletic at Borough Briggs. Craig Gunn missed a penalty for the hosts and the result takes Annan to within two points of the top four.
