Bell's Monthly Awards for January, 2006

Awards Announced

BELL'S Player of the Month: John Rankin, Ross County F.C.

BELL'S Young Player of the Month: Scott Murray, Dundee F.C.

BELL'S Manger of the Month, First Division: Gardner Speirs, Ross County F.C.

BELL'S Manager of the Month, Second Division: Rowan Alexander, Gretna F.C.

BELL'S Manager of the Month, Third Division: Billy Stark, Queen's Park F.C.

Ross County FC pick up two of the five BELL'S awards for their performances in January, with Gardner Speirs taking the Manager of the Month (First Division) and John Rankin winning the Player of the Month.

Gardner, formerly manager of Clyde FC and reserve and youth coach at Aberdeen, is the current Ross County caretaker manager. He has led the team through a successful January, including five games without defeat, most notably a win at Paisley and a draw at Dundee.

John, 22, is currently the First Division's leading scorer. This is his second award of the season, after winning the title in November. John started his senior career with Manchester United before joining Ross County two and a half years ago.

Iain MacDonald, BELL'S Sponsorship Manager, comments: "Gardner is doing a great job as caretaker manager whilst John has been a consistent scorer for the team. They have both been strong contributors to the club's run of unbeaten games and were popular choices for these awards this month."

Rowan Alexander is picking up his third Manager of the Month (Second Division) trophy for the season this Thursday.

A regular winner both in BELL'S awards and on the pitch, Rowan has led Gretna to the top of the Second Division with only one defeat in 22 league games.

His previous winning trophies were earned in September and October 2005, and he was also awarded Manager of the Year (Third Division) at the BELL'S Annual Awards at Gleneagles last May.

Iain MacDonald, BELL'S Sponsorship Manager, comments: "Rowan is one of the most regular winners in the BELL'S awards. This latest trophy is testament to the consistent proficiency of his management skills at Gretna."

Billy Stark has won the BELL'S Manager of the Month (Third Division) trophy for January.

Billy, formerly manager with Morton and St Johnstone, has been awarded the trophy due to the leading of his team through an unbeaten league run during January.

Iain MacDonald, BELL'S Sponsorship Manager, comments: "Billy had an outstanding month in January and worked hard to ensure a consistent level of success from his team. As such, the judges felt he was a natural choice for this award."

Scott Murray has won the BELL'S Young Player of the Month trophy for January.

Scott, goalkeeper with Dundee FC, enjoyed success, posting five shut-outs in Cup and League games in succession, and chasing the club record of seven. He originally played for Kilmarnock's youth side and joined Dundee in August 2004.

Iain MacDonald, BELL'S Sponsorship Manager, comments: "Scott proved his worth in January and it is clear he has a bright future. For this reason, the judges deemed him worthy of the award."
