Aleksandr Kokorin scored after just seven minutes as Dynamo Moscow beat Celtic 1-0 in the Champions League third qualifying round at Parkhead tonight.
It was a rare home defeat in Europe for the Clydesdale Bank Premier League runners-up as Tony Mowbray's first game in charge ended in disappointment.
There were debuts for Marc-Antoine Fortune and Landry N'Guemo but Celtic couldn't find a way past the Russians - already well into their season - and will need to win in Moscow next Wednesday to remain in the competition.
Mowbray said: "I'm disappointed about the result obviously but I'm still optimistic. There was enough evidence there to give us encouragement going into the second leg.
"They were well-structured, organised and always a threat on the break yet I believe that we have the quality to go there and cause them problems and score a goal."
