IRN-BRU Phenomenal Young Player of the Month

On-loan Dundee striker Martin Boyle was rewarded for finding the net for Montrose regularly last month when he was awarded February’s IRN-BRU SFL Young Player of the Month.  Boyle, who began his career at Links Park before moving to Dundee on a full-time deal last summer, netted six times in four games last month.

Martin BoyleThe 19-year-old then started March with the winning goal in a 2-1 success over Queen’s Park and he said: “I am happy to be out on loan playing regularly at Montrose as I haven’t had much of a chance at Dundee so far. I have another year left on my contract and my aim is to start next season as the first choice striker at Dens Park.”

“I never expected to be chosen for the award and it was a total shock when I got the call. I have never won a Monthly Award before although I did win The Ginger Boots Award for being the top scorer in the SFL last season.”

Boyle added: “Playing and scoring goals for Montrose is great for my confidence at the moment. Moving to Dens was a big step up and going back to Links Park will help me be ready for next season. I am still training with Dundee and John Brown has told me to keep doing what I have been doing. He has not seen me play yet but I reckon I have been looking sharper in training as a result of playing regularly.”

The Gable Endies have put in their strongest promotion push in years and Boyle is not sure what his role will be as they go forward as he explained: “My understanding is that I am here until the end of the season and then I will start afresh with Dundee. However I am not sure if my loan covers the Play-Offs but if I help get them there I would like to help get them up.”

“It has been good to be back and there are still a lot of familiar faces and at times it feels like I have never left. Montrose have helped me get fitter and stronger and that can only be good for me and Dundee.”
