Murrray leaves Montrose for Tayport

Striker departs Gable Endies for Junior side

Montrose have transferred youngster Simon Murray to Tayport Juniors for an undisclosed fee after the arrival of former Ross County front man Garry Wood pushed the youngster down the pecking order for a starting place.

The 19-year-old son of Links Park scoring legend, Gary Murray who was sold for a club record of £60,000 to Hibs back in 1980, made one first team appearance for the Gable Endies on the final day of last season as a substitute against Queen’s Park at Hampden.

Tayport, who are managed by former Links Park striker and Arbroath boss John McGlashan, were alerted to Murray’s potential during a loan spell at local Junior side Dundee Downfield.
