Aberdeen meet St Johnstone just a month after defeating the Perth side 4-0 in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup however Pittodrie manager Derek McInnes s adamant that no-one is getting taken in by that score-line.

Pittodrie is still on a high after the midweek 2-1 defeat of Celtic however St Johnstone will prove to be tough opposition especially if they hit the form they showed when they defeated Motherwell 3-0 on Tuesday.

McInnes said: “Our league matches this season with St Johnstone have been tight affairs and this will be a tough game.  In the semi-final the score-line was harsh on them and it was achieved as we showed great pace and directness on the day.”

“We had a brilliant result during the week but so did St Johnstone and that is not a surprise to me. They have a good manager and good players and they will want the points just as much as we do.”

“Having reached the high of beating Celtic we do not want to let things slip back but we will need to play well to win"

Russell Anderson could return to the starting line-up for the Dons however Clark Robertson and Ryan Jack remain out injured.

Former Kilmarnock and Hibs defender Tim Clancy has joined up with a Saints side that drew at Pittodrie earlier in the season. The Perth side will be looking for the result that keeps them ahead of the pack of clubs chasing a top six place.

Clancy has been signed as Fraser Wright and Tom Scobbie have joined Murray Davidson on the injured list.

Manager Tommy Wright said: “Aberdeen have done well against us all season and they have proven what a good side they are by beating Celtic twice in quick succession.”

“If we are to do anything against them we need to be very strong defensively. I am sure we will cause them a few problems going forward and if we show the same spirit that has secured us wins in the league all season then we have a real chance.”
