Aberdeen get a chance for revenge for missing out on next month’s Scottish Cup Final when their conquerors at the semi-final stage St Johnstone pitch up at Pittodrie.

The Dons have held the upper hand in the Premiership this season with two wins and a draw as well as a Scottish League Cup semi-final success. Manager Derek McInnes is looking for his men to improve on a recent run that has seen only one win in five games and qualify for Europe.

The Aberdeen manager said: “We know that St Johnstone are a good side and we don’t need reminding that they beat us a couple of weeks ago. St Johnstone have got good players in their squad and a good manager in Tommy Wright.”

“They will want to finish the season strongly but this game is all about trying to ensure European football for Aberdeen.”

“If we secure it by winning against St Johnstone then we will be delighted but to do that we have to beat a team in form.”

McInnes will delay naming his side to ensure that concerns over an illness bug that had hit a couple of Dons passes without any further impact. One player definitely missing is midfielder Nicky Low who broke a toe in an under-20 game in midweek.

St Johnstone head north in fine form having won five and drawn the other in their last six games, with their last outing being a win over a Dundee United side that they meet in the Scottish Cup Final.

Manager Tommy Wright said: “We are obviously very happy with the form that we are showing but we cannot get carried away. There is a confidence in our squad and we are looking forward to going to Aberdeen.”

“They have their own reasons for winning but we will go to Pittodrie and look to find a way to get on top. We can now play in different ways to win a game and that is a good place to be in.”

The Perth side have Chris Millar available after suspension and Lee Croft is available after a hamstring problem however Gary MacDonald, Tam Scobbie and Murray Davidson remain out with knocks.
