Dundee United look for their first win of the season over Aberdeen and a move to within 3 points of third top Motherwell before the Fir Park side face Inverness Caledonian Thistle tomorrow night.

Tannadice manager Jackie McNamara said: “We know that it will be difficult to secure third place but we will keep going for it. Games with Aberdeen are always tasty affairs and this season has seen some very good games of football.”

“We have not managed to beat them as yet however we have been very close and carried very little luck. There is nothing between the teams and I would imagine it will be the same in this game but hopefully we will just get ourselves in front this time.”

United could be without six players as defenders Calum Butcher and Curtis Good remain out with knocks with the midfield quartet of Stuart Armstrong, Gary Mackay-Steven, Paul Paton and John Rankin are all classed as doubts.

Aberdeen have already qualified for Europe however manager Derek McInnes wants to finish second and ensure that his side get a longer summer break.

The Dons meet Motherwell on Sunday in what could be a second place shoot-out with McInnes wanting his men to be going into it on the back of a win.

The Pittodrie boss said: “We are going after second place make no doubt about that. There is still a lot to play for in both camps as Dundee United can still make Europe before the Scottish Cup Final and that will keep them focussed.”

“There will be a bit of disappointment if we finish third and things are rushed over the summer so I really want us to win this game and the one on Sunday against Motherwell.”

The Dons have lost goal-grabber Adam Rooney after he picked up an ankle injury against Celtic on Saturday and he joins Andrew Considine and Nicky Low in missing out.

Clark Robertson is expected to return however Joe Shaughnessy is a major doubt.
