It promises to be a nervous afternoon at Easter Road where both Hibs and visitors Kilmarnock are looking to avoid finishing second bottom and facing a two-legged play-off to avoid relegation.

The Edinburgh side, with only one point in their last 8 games and no wins in 12 have to defeat the Ayrshire men to survive now as opposed to facing a Championship side.

Despite this run manager Terry Butcher is confident that his side can do enough to get the win they need as he explained: “We have made things difficult for ourselves in recent weeks but we can get a win over Kilmarnock. We are at home and we have played well there recently against Hearts and Partick Thistle. In both games we showed spirit after going behind and to be honest I am looking forward to the game as we know what is at stake and what we have to do.”

“Our support has a huge role to play and I am sure that they will get behind the boys. We have all hurt in recent weeks but it would be good to get the win and start looking forward to next season.”

Michael Nelson returns from a ban for Butcher’s side however Kevin Thomson is a doubt dueto a thigh strain.

Kilmarnock head east boosted by a 1-0 success over St Mirren in midweek where Kris Boyd was once again the match-winner and manager Allan Johnston is in no mood to play for a draw.

Johnston said: “We will go and try to win. If you play for a draw you are asking for teams to put pressure on you. Doing that and looking to keep a clean sheet for 90 minutes is a difficult task so we will look to attack.”

“We were good against St Mirren the other night where we played with a lot of energy and will to win. We will need a similar performance to get anything from Hibs. We have taken confidence from that game and that will stand us in good stead for Easter Road.”

Boyd has survived an injury scare however James Fowler is banned following his red card in midweek and he joins the injured Darren Barr and Greg Kiltie in missing out.
