Kenny McLean scored the only goal with eight minutes left as Aberdeen edged out Dundee United 1-0 at Tannadice on Sunday.
The former St Mirren midfielder met a cross from David Goodwillie and looped a header up and over keeper Luis Zwick, with the ball going in off the underside of the bar.
In a keenly-contested match, both sides had their chances - Danny Ward made a fine save from Mario Bilate while Ryan McGowan cleared off the line from Andrew Considine.
McLean's late goal ensured the Dons came out on top to gain revenge for an opening-weekend defeat to the same opponents 12 months ago.
