Airdrie and Hamilton mark passing of Jinky

Airdrie United will hold a collection in aid of motor neurone diseased in memory of Jimmy Johnston as they meet Hamilton this afternoon in their latest Lanarkshire derby.

The two clubs held talks yesterday before deciding that this would be a fitting way to mark the life of the former Scotland and Celtic winger.

Airdrie chairman Jim Ballantyne said; "Our club does not normally hold collections and seeks other ways to aid charities. We know that clubs throughout the country will be paying tribute in various ways such as a minutes silence or a minutes applause.

"However, we thought long and hard and feel that for clubs closest to Jimmy these would be fitting tributes.

"But at Airdrie we feel we wish to achieve something tangible by way of a tribute and we have decided to hold a collection in aid of motor neurone disease.

"Those who wish to contribute will do so in the knowledge that they will hopefully be helping to combat the disease and we believe that Jimmy would be happy knowing that his passing may just benefit one future sufferer."

Meanwhile Airdrie will be without Graham Holmes but former Ross County midfielder Stuart Taylor could again be included as a trialist. Hamilton have Stuart Balmer and Mark McLaughlin doubtful but both Alex Neil and Marvyn Wilson should be fit.

Clyde will be without Neil McGregor against St Mirren who have Kirk Broadfoot returning.

Dundee have only Steve Robertson missing against St Johnstone who are without the suspended Simon Mensing, and injured Kevin James and Steve Dobbie but Kevin Fotheringham returns.

Brechin will include new signing, former St Johnstone midfielder David Hannah, but both Danny Grainger and Gary Bollan are suspended as club captain Paul Deas and keeper John Hillcoat take charge against Ross County whose keeper Stuart Garden is missing after going through a cartilege operation. Ian McCaldon steps in.

Queen of the South have Willie Gibson suspended but Andy Thomson is fit and Sean O'Connor also in the squad against Stranraer who are without Andy Dowie, Gary McPhee and Ian Ross while Paul Walker is doubtful.
