Kit that was kindly donated by Albion Rovers during teacher Anthony Smith’s ‘Around the Grounds for a Pound’ tour of Scotland in the summer is now being proudly worn in Kenya.
Smith and Alan Taylor from Webster’s High School, Kirriemuir, toured every ground in Scotland to raise funds to bolster their school’s link with Litein High School in Kenya and when they arrived at Cliftonhill, the club promised some practical help.
Two sets of playing kit were sent over, with Smith writing to advise: “Further to our meeting at Cliftonhill during the summer, where you kindly arranged to donate two sets of strips to our school link with Litein High School in Kenya, I can now pass on some news.
“I travelled out to Kenya with a colleague and two pupils on Thursday 12th September for 19 days. The trip was a fantastic success and all of us realise we have much to be grateful for.”
“We arranged to carry out four bags ,with assorted kits in them, to be distributed to the pupils of Litein High School and its feeder schools. As you can see from the attached photographs, the boys of Litein High School are now sporting their new Albion Rovers kit. They also have available the red strip as well.
Smith added: “Albion Rovers FC can now boast that they have a small enclave of supporters in rural Kenya. Can I once again express my thanks and be assured the kits have found a great home.”
