Awards double for Rangers

The third annual Clydesdale Bank Premier League Awards ceremony, held to celebrate the best of the SPL on and off the field, took place at the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow on Monday

The third annual Clydesdale Bank Premier League Awards ceremony, held to celebrate the best of the SPL on and off the field, took place at the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow on Monday night.

Rangers boss Walter Smith was named Manager of the Year, with Ibrox skipper Davie Weir, who turns 40 next month, voted Clydesdale Bank Premier League Player of the Year.

Dundee United striker David Goodwillie landed the Young Player prize and his Tannadice team-mate Dale Hilson was named Clydesdale Bank U19 Player of the Year.

Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc won Save of the Season for his brilliant stop from David Wotherspoon of Hibernian in Celtic's 1-0 win at Easter Road in August.

Goal of the Season went to Hibernian's Anthony Stokes for his equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Rangers in October when he showed great skill then beat Allan McGregor with a fine volley.

Rangers boss Walter Smith said: "It has been a real team effort, I don't think there is any doubt about that. We have a great number of players in our team who have played exceptionally well. We have a small group of players so we have had to rely on a lot of them to do well over the season."
