One of three vacant managerial jobs in Scottish football was filled yesterday when Barry Wilson left highland League Wick Academy to take over as the manager of League 2 Elgin City.
The top jobs at Alloa and Stenhousemuir remain unfilled, however Wilson who saw service with Ross County, Southampton, Raith Rovers, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Livingston, Queen of the South, Peterhead and Elgin during an over 20 year playing career is in charge at Borough Briggs.
The 41-year-old is already well-known to club having spent just over two years as Ross Jack’s assistant before moving to Wick in October 2012. Wilson was installed as the favourite for the job as soon as former Hearts and Inverness boss John Robertson distanced himself from it at the weekend.
The position became available last week when Jack left after 5 years in charge by mutual consent with Elgin sitting second bottom of League.
A Board spokesperson said: “We are pleased to announce, with immediate effect, the appointment of Barry Wilson as Manager of Elgin City. Barry is well known to both the Board and the fans o from his previous involvement with the Club and we look forward to working with him again.”
