East Stirling will travel to Ibrox to face Rangers in what will be the Ibrox club’s first ever home match in the IRN-BRU Third Division a week on Saturday, August 18, and the Shire are giving the opportunity of a lifetime for someone to be the first ever Chairperson to visit the Glasgow ground for a lower league game.
The Official’s place is up for grabs and can be won by successfully bidding to carry out the Chair’s duties for the day with the proceeds helping to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.
Present Chairperson Tony Ford, who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s, cannot make the meeting as he is attending a 35th year reunion of his former submariner colleagues from the Royal Navy.
Ford however is more than willing to allow someone to take his place and take on his official role in return for a donation that will be split between research into finding a cure for the disease as well as for local projects.
The Shire Chief explained, “I have a long standing engagement with my former colleagues that I really must attend. Being the Chairman of a Third Division club for a league match at Ibrox has never happened before, this will be the first time and someone else will now get this privilege.”
“Rangers have given their approval and the winner will represent East Stirlingshire at the game and their duties will include visiting the Ibrox Boardroom. All we would ask them to do is to wear appropriate dress for the environment they will be in and comply with standards expected of a Director.”
Ford refused to confirm if that would involve staying impartial should John Coughlin’s side score saying only, “I would possibly struggle with that myself.”
Anyone over 18 is welcome to submit a sealed bid by post to East Stirlingshire FC, 81D Main Street, Bainsford, FK2 7NZ with a deadline of midday on Wednesday 15th of August. Bids must include the bidders name, contact telephone number and the maximum bid you are willing to place.
Proceeds of the auction will be equally shared between the Forth Valley Young Parkinson’s Support Group for research into finding a cure and the East Stirlingshire FC Community Engagement Fund for local projects.
