Berwick to withdraw from EoS League

Berwick Rangers are pulling out of the East of Scotland League at the end of this season.

Berwick Rangers are pulling out of the East of Scotland League at the end of this season.

Issues with the Shielfield pitch and the availability of other facilities, as well as the growing strength of reserve football in the SPFL are the reasons behind the move.

Director John Bell said: “As well as our first team, we have sides in the East of Scotland League and SPFL Reserve League. The pitch was starting to take a bit of a hammering and we had to look for alternative venues for our home games, and that is not always easy.

“We have talked the situation over with first team manager Colin Cameron and it was decided that the SPFL Reserve League, who play all their fixtures midweek, was a better alternative. It would see our players play in a higher standard of football as well.

“It was a difficult decision to withdraw from the EOS but it is the best decision for our club.”
