Butcher leaves Easter Road

Hibernian have announced the departure of manager Terry Butcher following the club's relegation to the Scottish Championship last month.

Hibernian have announced the departure of manager Terry Butcher following the club's relegation to the Scottish Championship last month.

The former England defender left Inverness Caley Thistle in November 2013 to replace Pat Fenlon but the Easter Road side slipped down the table and lost on penalties to Hamilton Accies in the play-off final last month.

The Hibs board met this morning and unanimously agreed that Butcher should be relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

Chief Executive Leeann Dempster told the club website: "I am genuinely saddened that we have had to take this tough decision. Sadly, for a variety of reasons, it hasn't worked out for Terry here.

"Now we need to move forward and act to bring in a new manager with the aim of getting us promoted back to where Hibernian belongs, in the top league of Scottish football, from a uniquely competitive Championship."
