Inverness Caley Thistle are aiming to win the trophy for the second time when they face Dumbarton in Saturday’s IRN-BRU Cup final in Perth.
John Robertson was also in charge when the Highland club beat Airdrie 2-0 at McDiarmid Park in October 2003 before going on to clinch the First Division title later that season. The goalscorers in the Challenge Cup final were David Bingham and substitute Steve Hislop.
Inverness were runners-up in 1999/00, when they lost on penalties to Alloa Athletic after an epic 4-4 draw, and they were beaten 3-2 by Dundee in the 2009/10 final.
