The former Scotland midfielder was previously in charge of Cowdenbeath and Berwick Rangers, and was latterly a coach with Lowland League side Caledonian Braves.
Cameron, 46, will now work with Diamonds boss Ian Murray at the Ladbrokes League 1 club, who are currently fourth in the table.
