Morton striker Archie Campbell staked his claim for a starting place in the Greenock side’s vital clash with Alloa on Saturday after grabbing a hat-trick in a reserve game on Monday night in front of watching manager Kenny Shiels.

The 23-year-old former Rangers and Blue Brazil frontman, who has not started a game since the end of December, grabbed his treble in a 7-1 win over Ayr United.

Campbell’s treble adds to his recent first-team goals against Queen of the South and Cowdenbeath. Tony Wallace hit a double, with Nicky Jamieson and Jack Smith also scoring for the Cappielow side.
