Celtic win Viaplay Cup at Hampden

Holders retain trophy

Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to win the Viaplay Cup in front of 49,529 fans at Hampden Park.

SPFL top scorer Kyogo Furuhashi gave Ange Postecoglou's side the lead just before half-time when he converted a Greg Taylor cross from close range.

Reo Hatate set up Kyogo to score the second goal in 56 minutes to put Celtic in a strong position but Alfredo Morelos pulled one back eight minutes later.

Celtic saw the game out and skipper Callum McGregor lifted the trophy as the Parkhead club won this competition for the 21st time overall.

Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive, said: “I would like to warmly congratulate the players, management team and directors at Celtic on winning the Viaplay Cup final.

“Today’s match proved to be another hugely exciting encounter between the two clubs, and we would like to send our commiserations to everyone connected with Rangers, who helped make it such a compelling advert for our game.

“Both clubs deserve real credit for how they’ve performed throughout the Viaplay Cup, and we look forward to the competition’s return next season.”
