Dundee United William Hill Championship

cinch Championship title permutations

A look at the permutations to crown this season's Championship winners

With just three rounds of games remaining of the cinch Championship season, Dundee United are in pole position to clinch the title and return to the top flight at the first attempt.

United are currently six points clear of closest challengers Raith Rovers and could potentially wrap up the title at Tannadice this weekend if things go their way.

Here’s a look at the possible permutations...

Raith Rovers travel to Inverness on Friday evening to take on a Caley Thistle side embroiled in a battle to avoid the dreaded relegation play-off spot (watch the game LIVE on BBC Scotland, 7:45pm kick-off).

Anything other than a win for Ian Murray’s Rovers on Friday evening would give the Terrors the chance to become champions on home soil on Saturday afternoon.

A draw between Raith and Inverness would require Dundee United to defeat Ayr United in order to become champions, while defeat for Rovers would mean that Jim Goodwin’s side would only need a point to mathematically secure the title.

A win for Raith at the Caledonian Stadium would mean that any potential Dundee United title party would be put on hold for at least another week.
