Peterhead’s former skipper and ex-Dundee player Callum MacDonald has opted to retire from the game after nearly two years out with a knee injury and take up a coaching position at Balmoor.
The 31-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament injury in training in November 2012 and has had his knee rebuilt twice in a bid to get playing again but he has been unable to return to match fitness.
Manager Jim McInally said: “Callum has tried to battle back twice but it looks like he would risk problems in later life if he pushes himself too far. That is too big a risk for him and we have had a couple of chats about him taking up a coaching role.
“He is now doing that and was involved in taking the team for the warm-up before Saturday’s win over Stenhousemuir.”
