Match Report - Bell's Third Division

Cowden go top for the first time

Two goal striker David McKenna lifted Cowdenbeath to the top of the third division in a comeback 2-1 win over Albion Rovers.

But it looked as if an upset was on the cards when Scott Chaplain fired Albion ahead four minutes from the interval. However, McKenna with a double in a three minute second half spell ensured the points.

Cowden are locked with Berwick on 69 points but have a better goal difference despite the Shielfield side's 3-0 win over Stenhousemuir to knock the Larbert side off the top.

A superb four man move ended with Sean Paliczka putting Berwick ahead in 29 minutes and in the second period Kevin Haynes and Danny Swanson added two more.

Martin Johnston hit a sparkling hat trick in Elgin's 4-1 win over Arbroath in a clash of two sides hoping to make the play offs. Johnston opened the scoring in three minutes, added a 9th minute second from the penalty spot after Arbroath's Steve Cook was sent off for deliberate handball, and completed his hat trick before the interval. Paul Kaczan added a fourth.

Queen's Park were left disappointed for despite being on top and leading 2-0 against Montrose with goals from Paul Harvey and Bryan Felvus they had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw as Greig Henslee and a Steven Fraser header.

A Carl Thywessen strike earned East Stirling a 2-1 win over East Fife as their new manager Dave Baikie looked on. Earlier Derek Ure had given Shire the lead before Craig Smart levelled.
