Arbroath William Hill Championship

Dick Campbell steps down as Arbroath boss

Campbell was the SPFL’s second longest-serving manager

Dick Campbell has stepped down from his position as Arbroath manager, the cinch Championship club has announced.

The Red Lichties were knocked out of the Scottish Cup after a 2-1 defeat to cinch League 2 side The Spartans at Ainslie Park.

Campbell spent over seven-and-a-half years in charge of the Gayfield side - leading Arbroath to the cinch League 2 title in 2016/17 before clinching the cinch League 1 crown in 2018/19.

Under Campbell's leadership, Arbroath challenged for promotion to the cinch Premiership in season 2021/22 only to be pipped by Kilmarnock in the penultimate game of the season.

A statement posted on the club's official account on X/Twitter read: "Arbroath Football Club can confirm this evening that manager Dick Campbell, assistant manager Ian Campbell and coaches Robert Douglas and John Young have stepped down from their positions.

"Having joined the club in 2016, they have served Arbroath Football Club with distinction over the past seven years, bringing many successes to the club, including the League 2 and League 1 Championships, and led the club to their fifth successive season of Championship football at Gayfield.

"The club wishes to place on record its sincere gratitude to Dick, Ian, Robert and John for all their wonderful efforts and service to Arbroath FC during arguable one of the most successful periods in the club's history and wish them all the very best in the future."
