Dillon hopes for better fortune

Dundee United skipper Sean Dillon is hoping his League Cup fortunes improve against Aberdeen in Saturday’s last-four tie at Hampden.

Dundee United skipper Sean Dillon is hoping his League Cup fortunes improve against Aberdeen in Saturday’s last-four tie at Hampden.

The Irishman only featured as a late substitute when United beat the Dons 4-1 in the 2008 semi-final at Tynecastle and was left on the bench for the final against Rangers, which Craig Levein's team lost on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

The 31-year-old was also left out of the starting XI when the Tannadice club lost an incredible penalty shoot-out 11-10 to Celtic after a 0-0 draw in the 2009 semi-final.

Dillon said: "In 2008 I was just coming back from injury when it was the semi-final but when the final came round I was fully fit. A few of us were rested for a game against Celtic but Mihael Kovacevic did well and kept his place!

"I also missed out in 2009 so I'm looking forward to hopefully being involved this time. I was devastated when we lost to St Johnstone in last year's Scottish Cup final and would love to put that right this season."
