Aberdeen began their William Hill Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory away to St Johnstone in front of more than 9,000 fans on Monday night.
Nicky Devlin headed Jimmy Thelin's side in front midway through the first half and Jamie McGrath doubled their lead with a cool finish in 62 minutes.
A late own goal from Gavin Molloy gave Saints hope but Aberdeen held on to make it five wins out of five following a 100% record in the Premier Sports Cup group stage.
Before the game, St Johnstone paid tribute to legendary former owner Geoff Brown by naming the main stand in his honour while presentations were made by the SPFL and SFA.
