East Fife won the SFL Under 19 Youth League Cup Final in dramatic fashion on Sunday, 16th September, 2007 at King George V Park, Leven. On a poignant afternoon, the Fifers defeated Livingston 4 - 3 in a penalty shoot-out after the match had finished 3 - 3 after extra-time. The Final had been held over from last season due to the tragic death of one of the East Fife youth players, Alex Scougall.
Despite the torrential rain, a healthy crowd of over 200 attended the Final with a minute's applause being held before the start of the match as a mark of respect for the young player.
Following a bright opening period by the Fifers, Livi began to dominate as the first half progressed and opened the scoring when Jay Lang fired home from 20 yards. However, Luke Lava equalised for East Fife early in the second half when he scored with a looping header and shortly thereafer, Darren Thomson put the Fifers ahead.
Livingston then began to pressurise the East Fife goal and with time running out, Kyle Jacobs headed home an equaliser from a corner.
The first period of extra-time did not produce any further goals and with only 8 minutes of extra-time remaining, substitute Neil Dewar looked to have scored the winner for East Fife. However, in injury time, Livingston were awarded a penalty kick and Keaghan Jacobs converted with virtually the last kick of the game.
During the penalty shoot-out, Livingston missed two penalties and although East Fife missed one of their spot-kicks, East Fife's Ross Smith converted the fifth and final penalty to give the New Bayview side the trophy.
Jubilant scenes of celebration then followed, before the Cup was presented to skipper Martyn Shepherd by Alex Scougall senior.
