Former Queen’s Park head coach Gardner Speirs was delighted to learn that Andrew Robertson had been called up to the Scotland squad.
It was Speirs who plucked Robertson out of the youth system at Hampden in the summer of 2012 and put him straight into his first team and the 19-year-old has not looked back since.
After just one season at Queen’s Park, Robertson moved up to the Premiership with Dundee United and his form has earned him a call-up to Strachan’s squad to face Poland.
Speirs said: “I am pleased for Andrew that his ability is being recognised at international level. He worked hard here after being released by Celtic as a kid and handled the step-up to first-team level in his stride.
“His rise has been rapid but he is a level-headed boy who will handle it. If he is selected to play by Gordon Strachan he will not let him down.”
