Hibernian were flying high in the SPL at Christmas 2000 and drew their Boxing Day clash 1-1 with Hearts at Tynecastle, where Alex McLeish's men scored through Stuart Lovell.

That result kept Hibs in second place with just three defeats in 23 games, although a poor finish to the campaign saw them slip to third.

In what was the first season of the 12-club SPL, Martin O'Neill's Celtic beat rock bottom Dundee United 4-0 at Tannadice - Chris Sutton bagged a double - on Boxing Day to stay top and they went on to clinch the title.

Neil McCann, Fernando Ricksen and Tore Andre Flo all scored as Rangers overcame St Johnstone 3-0 at Ibrox. A Paul Wright hat-trick saw Kilmarnock win 3-1 at St Mirren while Dunfermline hit back to beat Aberdeen 3-2. Juan Sara scored twice as Dundee won 3-0 at Motherwell.
