Frustration ends for Gormley

Striker nets to end 4 months of not playing

Striker Liam Gormley put four months of frustration behind him when he came on as a substitute and scored for Queen’s Park on Saturday as the Spiders lost 5-2 to Annan at Hampden.

The former Celtic kid, who had a trial at Birmingham City last season, before spells at Morton and East Fife, was expecting to be a New Bayview player again this term but the offer of a contract was withdrawn and he was left to find a club just before the season started.

Trials at Stirling Albion, Dunfermline and East Stirling came and went before Gormley agreed to join the Hampden side after he impressed in training and a reserve game.

Queen’s Head Coach Gardner Speirs said: “Liam looked very lively when he came on and he took his goal very well, especially when you consider he has not played first-team football since May. We are pleased to have him here and he is pleased to be here as he has a fantastic platform to show what he can do.”
