Golden boot for Boyd

Rangers striker Kris Boyd has been presented with a golden boot to mark his achievement in becoming the record SPL goalscorer with 160 so far

Rangers striker Kris Boyd has been presented with a golden boot to mark his achievement in becoming the record SPL goalscorer with 160 goals so far.

The former Kilmarnock player beat Henrik Larsson's record of 158 goals when he netted five times in the midweek 7-1 win over Dundee United in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

SPL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said: "There’s been a bit of debate about one or two of Kris Boyd’s and Henrik Larsson’s goals over the years but Kris’ goals on Wednesday night removed all doubt about him being the SPL's all-time top goalscorer.

"It is a remarkable achievement and he certainly smashed the record in style. On behalf of the SPL I would like to congratulate him on it and I’m delighted that Clydesdale Bank are marking it with this golden boot award.

"With the record now broken, we’re going to launch a Dubious Goals Panel to review and officially credit any disputed goals in the future. In the past we have simply relied on the match official’s report but this way we can apply a second look if necessary. This in no way undermines the role of the referee but will mean that our record books are as accurate as possible."
