Dundee United moved to within six points of third-placed Motherwell thanks to a 3-1 win over Stuart McCall's men at Tannadice on Friday night.
Ryan Dow broke the deadlock midway through the first half when he pounced on a poor pass-back from Shaun Hutchinson and defender Gavin Gunning doubled the lead with a close-range finish before the break.
Gunning found the bottom corner with a deflected free-kick just after the restart and John Sutton's 57th-minute penalty following a handball by Nadir Ciftci was only a consolation for the visitors.
